So, since my end-of-the-week post isn't just about what I got in my mailbox or on my Kindle each week -- though that is a big part of it, I won't lie -- I decided to change up the title and intro a bit. I might tweak the format a bit over the next few weeks, but for the most part, it'll contain the same stuff: stuff I got, stuff I did, and stuff that's coming up on the blog. Plus, I get to use the awesome GIF you see here and blow kisses to all the people who sent me lovely books and bookish things. Oh, and I've started linking up to Stacking the Shelves hosted by Tynga's Reviews since I'm not using a specific meme title anymore. April's also doing her own Stacking the Shelves posts on Sundays. Stop by and say hi! =)
Um, I went a little crazy this week. At least with my audio, lol. But I'm taking full advantage of having access to the capital library's audiobook archive since I finally got my library card when I was in Austin visiting my sister last week. Big thanks to Jenn Renee for letting me know that you don't have to be an Austin resident to benefit from this service, as my tiny small town library has next to nothing available on audio...or any other format really. o_O
Anyway, here's what I scored this week:
physical goodies |
Dorothy Must Die by Danielle Paige (ARC) - unsolicited
Dear Killer by Katherine Ewell (finished copy) - unsolicited
Under the Egg by Laura Marx Fitzgerald (finished copy) - unsolicited
I read the prequel story to Dorothy Must Die, and I wasn't all that impressed, but the snippet at the end for the full-length novel did intrigue me further. Can't wait to see if the book surpasses the short story. I haven't seen the best reviews for Dear Killer, but my curiosity was piqued by a juvenile serial killer a la TV's Dexter. I don't know much about Under the Egg, and I don't read all that much Middle Grade these days, but other reviews make this sound like a well-researched read.
Purchased:
See Me by Wendy Higgins (ebook)
Maybe Someday by Colleen Hoover (audio)
I've enjoyed Wendy Higgins' Sweet Trilogy, so I was excited to see a self-published book about Leprechauns and faeries from her. It wasn't quite what I was expecting, but I enjoyed it. I love Colleen Hoover, and despite some negative reviews for this book, I enjoyed it. Both of these should be reviewed on the blog next week.
Library:
The Beautiful & the Cursed by Page Morgan (audio)
Uninvited by Sophie Jordan (audio)
The Naturals by Jennifer Lynn Barnes (audio)
TBatC was a re-read/listen in preparation for the sequel, which releases next month. I have an ARC which I'll be reading and reviewing shortly. I had ARCs of both Uninvited and The Naturals, but I never got around to them, so I'm listening to the audiobooks instead, courtesy of the Austin Public Library System, which I can now access even though I live in the Dallas area. Woohoo!!!
Gifted:
On the Island by Tracey Garvis Graves (signed copy)
Covet by Tracey Garvis Graves (ARC)
April had an extra signed copy of On the Island, which she's always raving about, and she gave it to me, even though I won a digital copy from her back when she had a giveaway on her old blog. :) And she gave me her ARC of Covet because she plans to buy a finished copy because she loved this book so much. Isn't she the best?!? :D
+
A Mad, Wicked Folly swag from author Sharon Biggs Waller - a signed bookmark plus an original drawing and the poem referenced in the book
The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater (ARC)
Famous Last Words by Jennifer Salvato Doktorski (ARC)
I have a problem. I want all the Maggie books. I already have an audio and a hardcover copy (signed!) of The Scorpio Races, but I seriously coveted this ARC, even if it's a couple years old. And now the precious is MINE. I liked Doktorski's debut when I read it last year, and this one sounds even cuter, so I grabbed it up while the getting was good. =)
So, that's my haul. How about you? What did you get this week?

Jen's Currently Reading/Listening To:
I've put this one off long enough. I kind of wanted to re-read the first book, but at the same time, I feel like I should go into this one as blind as I did Arclight. So, I'm just diving in.

I also just bought See Me and Maybe Someday! I love the library. I get all my audiobooks there and I can download them right from home off the library website. So glad you found a great library. LOVED On The Island! Hope you enjoy it too!

Yay...I'm seeing those two on a lot of posts this weekend. :) And the library is the BEST. I loved it when I was a kid and I love it just as much now...and my pocketbook is going to thank me for finding it, too. ;)
DeleteOh maaan, I can't wait to read Dorothy must die! I hope you like it better than the prequel :) I've heard good things about Uninvited and I love the cover from The beautiful and the cursed. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteThe Beautiful and the Cursed does have a great cover, doesn't it? I think the sequel's cover is just as gorgeous. I'm about to read that one, too. :) I hope I enjoy Dorothy Must Die, too.
DeleteOh I'm with you on Maggie Stiefvater's books. I'm quite devastated to own NONE of them, but I struggle to go out and buy books I have already read. Still. When she finally gets that 3rd Faerie book out, you'd better believe I will be clicking BUY BUY BUY asap. Yes. I will be. (She's my favourite author, I reckon, since I've never been disappointed by her books). OKAY GUSH OVER. *ahem* I'm looking forward to your review of Second Star! I want to read that one, too. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat? How can that be when you love them so much?!? I have multiples of some because I'm weird like that, but like you, she's my favorite author, so it kinda makes sense. :P I loved your gushing. :D
DeleteI absolutely LOVED The Naturals! Then again, I'm a fan of mysteries. It's one of my go to genres. I hope you enjoy it!
ReplyDeleteI've heard The Naturals is really good, so I don't know why I didn't make time for it before. I really hope the narrator is good.
DeleteNice haul, you've got some great books. I'm not a fan of audiobooks, they're too slow for me :(
ReplyDeleteI hope you enjoy all your new additions.
Happy Reading! xD

I know a lot of people who don't appreciate audiobooks, but sometimes I actually prefer the audio version over the text. A good narrator can really make a great story that much better. But to each their own. :)
DeleteAwesome lineup! I so want to read The Forever Song. I want to finish that series!
ReplyDeleteHappy Reading!

I'm halfway through and it's great so far. :) I'm excited to finish the series but also sad. I was so tired of vampires until this series came along...
DeleteI've seen quite many people to have See Me on their lists today. I need to check what it is about. :) Great haul you got there - enjoy your books and have a lovely weekend!
ReplyDeleteSee Me is cute and at $1.99, not a bad deal. :) Hope you have a lovely weekend, too.
DeleteI love Maggie Stiefvater (pronounced Steve-Otter) books, too, especially Scorpio Races.
ReplyDeleteShe's likely my favorite author. ;)
DeleteLove the cover of Covet, reminds me of Wizard of Oz with the flower field scene. Happy reading!
ReplyDelete★ Under The Mountain ★
Now that you mention it, it does kind of remind me of that. :)
DeleteCan't wait to see what you think of Dorothy Must Die, it sounds really interesting!
ReplyDeleteI've seen some great reviews for it, so I'm hoping it surprises me. I think I just didn't like reading the prequel from a not-so-sweet Dorothy's point-of-view.
DeleteOh Dorothy Must Die! I'm looking forward to that one.
ReplyDeleteAwesome book haul!
It is a pretty highly anticipated book this spring. :) Hope you enjoy it when you get a chance to read it.
DeleteNice haul. I enjoyed Famous Last Words, The Scorpio Races, Uninvited and The Unnaturals. I'm really looking forward to The Forever Song but have a couple of review books to read before I get to it on the review stack. Come see what I got at Ms. Martin Teaches Media and Inside of a Dog. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteThe Scorpio Races is one of my favorites, but I'm excited to read the others for sure. I'm only halfway through The Forever Song, but it's been amazing so far. Hope you love it, too!
DeleteYAY! This makes me ECSTATIC! I can't wait for you to read The Naturals because that was one of my favorite books last year :)
ReplyDeleteOh, Summer, that makes me happy! I kind of adore Jennifer Lynn Barnes, so I was hoping The Naturals was good. I mean, I'd heard that it was, but you know how it is. :)
DeleteSo jealous you got Dorothy Must Die. I am itching to read that. I beta read See Me. I hope you enjoy it. LOVED The Forever Song and I'm so sad the series is over. I need MORE! Enjoy it all! My STS
ReplyDeleteHehe...I hope it lives up to the hype. :) See Me was pretty cute, and The Forever Song is amazing so far. And I am enjoying them, thanks! :D
DeleteUninvited was really good - different for Sophie Jordan which was a nice surprise. Hope you like it as well. Enjoy your haul - they all look good! Here's ours if you're interested: BiblioJunkies, Happy Reading! ~ Bel
ReplyDeleteI actually own all of her Firelight series, but I haven't read any of it, yet. I might have to make it a priority if Uninvited is as good as everyone says. :)
DeleteOH OH OH!! I can't wait to get my pre-ordered copy of Dorothy Must Die!!! I LOVED No Place Like Oz!!! Happy Reading! Here's my STS if you'd like to stop by.
ReplyDeleteGreat haul! Slightly, VERY, jealous that you have Dorothy Must Die - I can't wait to read that one. I hope you enjoy your books :) My STS.
ReplyDeleteHappy to hear that you've found a library that you like! I cannot wait for Dorothy Must Die, and then Maybe Someday!

I'm listening to the audio of Maybe Someday right now, and it's pretty darn amazing. I'm absolutely loving it. I'm very close to the end, and that makes me very sad. I just don't want it to end!! I hope you enjoy your new goodies!! :)
ReplyDeleteHow was your trip? I hope you had a great time with your sister and that is awesome about the capital library. I'm pretty lucky with my city's library system for both physical books and e-books/audio. I'm really excited to read Dorothy Must Die. I didn't read the prequel novella though...I'm reading Dear Killer now. It's interesting. Different from what I was expecting. Great haul!
