Teaser Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (Make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

This week's teaser comes from the following book:

Add to Goodreads
Title:  Crewel
Author:  Gennifer Albin
Series:  Crewel World, book #1
Publisher:  Farrar, Straus and Giroux (BYR)
Publication Date:  October 16, 2012
Source:  ARC from publisher
Purchase:  Amazon | Barnes & Noble

Incapable. Awkward. Artless.

That’s what the other girls whisper behind her back. But sixteen year-old Adelice Lewys has a secret: she wants to fail.

Gifted with the ability to weave time with matter, she’s exactly what the Guild is looking for, and in the world of Arras, being chosen as a Spinster is everything a girl could want. It means privilege, eternal beauty, and being something other than a secretary. It also means the power to embroider the very fabric of life. But if controlling what people eat, where they live and how many children they have is the price of having it all, Adelice isn’t interested.

Not that her feelings matter, because she slipped and wove a moment at testing, and they’re coming for her—tonight.

Now she has one hour to eat her mom’s overcooked pot roast. One hour to listen to her sister’s academy gossip and laugh at her Dad’s stupid jokes. One hour to pretend everything’s okay. And one hour to escape.

Because once you become a Spinster, there’s no turning back.

My teaser:

"Yes, I could, but that's not why I'm here.  You must make the hard choice, Adelice, before you can move forward.  Decisions must be made.  Often between life and death.  It is hard to make a decision to save thousands when it compromises one."  Her voice is a hollow whisper, and ghosts echo in her eyes.  "It is easier not to be put in that position."  -- p. 177 of ARC

I feel such compassion for Adelice.  She's been put through so much already and what's being asked of her as the story progresses just becomes harder and harder to fathom.

Side note:  I love this synopsis.  It's concise and to the point without giving away the whole plot of the story.  I'm so tired of reading spoilers in book summaries!

Interested in this novel but still not convinced?  Check out the chapter sampler being offered:  Amazon | Barnes & Noble.

  5. Oooo, I can't wait to read this one! I'm really eager to read your review and see what you think of it.

And I have to say I TOTALLY agree with you about the spolier synopsis issue out there. I read a synopsis to see if I'm interested in the story, but honestly I never look at it again. So usually by the time I get to the book, I have no idea what it's about. I can't stand reading a book when I feel like I already know what's going to happen. Maybe that's why I sometimes base my interest on the book on its cover, rather than synopsis. :D
