Welcome to my stop on the Gravity Blog Tour, hosted by Shane at Itching for Books. In addition to a giveaway for your very own signed copy of the book, I've got a great post from the author herself. But first, let's find out a little bit about Melissa West...
About the author:
Melissa lives in a tiny suburb of Atlanta, GA with her husband and daughter. She pretends to like yoga, actually likes shoes, and could not live without coffee. Her writing heroes include greats like Jane Austen and Madeleine L'Engle.
She holds a B.A. in Communication Studies and an M.S. in Graphic Communication, both from Clemson University. Yeah, her blood runs orange.

Here are TEN things Melissa thinks you should know about Gravity:
1. Ari Alexander, GRAVITY’s main character, has trained since she was ten years old in weaponry and combat. She’s crazy fierce.
2. In my mind, Jackson and Ari are very much alike. Both are loyal and driven.
3. The aliens are built around the ancient astronaut theory.
4. Originally the book included football and Jackson was the quarterback. I know, so cliché!
5. The Ancients’ planet, Loge, is built around an actual Earth-like planet scientists found orbiting the Alpha Centauri system.
6. I adore the second half of the book. That isn’t to say I don’t enjoy the first, but the second is my favorite. :)
7. GRAVITY was originally titled TWISTED ROOT, due to the Ancients travelling between planets through the trees.
8. Originally Ari was not a fighter at all.
9. GRAVITY took me three months to write and has been rewritten, almost entirely, twice.
10. Secretly, almost all of the characters in my book are modeled after people I know. :)

In the future, only one rule will matter:
Don’t. Ever. Peek.
Seventeen-year-old Ari Alexander just broke that rule and saw the last person she expected hovering above her bed — arrogant Jackson Locke, the most popular boy in her school. She expects instant execution or some kind of freak alien punishment, but instead, Jackson issues a challenge: help him, or everyone on Earth will die.
Ari knows she should report him, but everything about Jackson makes her question what she’s been taught about his kind. And against her instincts, she’s falling for him. But Ari isn’t just any girl, and Jackson wants more than her attention. She’s a military legacy who’s been trained by her father and exposed to war strategies and societal information no one can know — especially an alien spy, like Jackson. Giving Jackson the information he needs will betray her father and her country, but keeping silent will start a war.

ReplyDeleteI have to be honest i have not read anything like this one about Aliens and Dystopia it is a new concept to me. Then you write about ancient astronaut as if it has been hundreds of years. This i have to see how you wrote all together since the stars are still new to us other than in are imagination. You sound like you have a good one and can't wait to read. Thank you for a chance to win. When your book goes for signing come to Statesboro Ga to Books a million so i can meet you. That would be grand. Thanks Joannie

ReplyDeleteI wish that a little more was explained in the blurb, because if I had just read that and none of the 10 facts I would have no idea what was going on...

ReplyDeleteI think it sounds soooo cool. To be honest, I read "Don't. Ever. Peek." and heard the Doctor in my head. "Don't blink. Blink and you're dead." But there you can't even open your eyes! Goosebumps.
