The Weekend Update - 9.12.15

Saturday, September 12, 2015 with 7 comments
So, since my end-of-the-week post isn't just about what I got in my mailbox or on my Kindle each week -- though that is a big part of it, I won't lie -- I decided to change up the title and intro a bit.  I might tweak the format a bit over the next few weeks, but for the most part, it'll contain the same stuff: stuff I got, stuff I did, and stuff that's coming up on the blog.  Plus, I get to use the awesome GIF you see here and blow kisses to all the people who sent me lovely books and bookish things.  Oh, and I've started linking up to Stacking the Shelves hosted by Tynga's Reviews since I'm not using a specific meme title anymore.  April's also doing her own Stacking the Shelves posts on Sundays.  Stop by and say hi!  =)
When I'm having a sucky day, week, or month, it always helps to be able to escape into a good book. And that's pretty much what I've been doing lately. Listening by day and reading by night. Because real life is hard right now and I can't even with it. But instead of being all pitiful and sad, I'm trying to stay positive, reminding myself of what I have and how lucky I am. Also, there's been a lot of ice cream flowing in my house lately. BTW, did you know that Ben & Jerry's makes a Red Velvet Cake flavor?!? I only just found it in my grocery store and I am in LOVE. What do you do to cheer yourself up when life's got you down?

Anyway, enough with the pity party. Here's what I scored this week:

For Review:

It's a Wonderful DeathBlackhearts

It's a Wonderful Death by Sarah J. Schmitt - this sounds cute and funny
Blackhearts by Nicole Castroman - a Blackbeard origin story!!!

Slasher Girls & Monster BoysHunter (Hunter, #1)Everything, EverythingA Book of Spirits and Thieves (Spirits and Thieves, #1)

My library just uploaded a ton of new books to their website this week, so I grabbed as many as my checkout limit would allow, natch. =) And all audio, of course, because that's how I roll, especially when it comes to non-review books. :)

Darken the Stars (Kricket, #3)

Darken the Stars by Amy A. Bartol - I already read this and it's great, especially the romantic angle, but it can't really be the final book in this series, can it?!?

So, that's my haul. :) How about you? What did you get this week?

The Week in Review:

Everything, EverythingNightfallIt's that time of year again...the time when all I want to do is curl up with a creepy book. And Nightfall sounds like the creepiest! I'm only just starting this, but I'll definitely be reading by candlelight for maximum creepiness. My experience and tour post will be up next week.

Everyone and their mama is raving over this book, which I knew next to nothing about, so when the audio was made available through my library, I snagged it. I hope I love it as much as everyone else!

Upcoming Reviews:

Lion Heart (Scarlet, #3)The Invasion of the Tearling (The Queen of the Tearling, #2)Lair of Dreams (The Diviners, #2)Nameless

  1. Oh no! I'm sorry you're having a rough go of it. You need someone to talk to I'm here. I am soooo curious about Blackhearts. My request is still pending. I'm with you--I read or watch tv when life has me down. Lately I've been watching New Girl. I'm not even sure I really love the show but I keep coming back so that's something.

  2. Sorry that RL has been such a bummer. I totally get that RL can weigh you down, but you got some great books.

  3. Everything, Everything was fantastic!

    Happy reading. :)

  4. Curious to hear about Black Hearts. Enjoy this awesome bunch.

  5. Also, watching some comedy either a movie or some on youtube is a good way to get some laughs to lift the spirits.

  6. Black Hearts is one I got recently as well and can't wait for! Great haul this week!
    Check out my STS

  7. I'm sorry real life is kicking your ass. I know we're just internet friends, but you can email me if you need to vent.
I LOVE the cover to Blackhearts and have Slasher Girls checked out from the library right now, too. Have you read any of it yet?
Hope this week is much better!
