In My Mailbox is hosted by Kristi at The Story Siren. It's a weekly meme where we all get to brag about the books and swag we got in the mail, for review, won in contests, etc.
A bit of a reprieve this weekend...it was 105 on Wednesday. I don't really expect that rain to come through, so we'll be playing in the sprinklers this weekend. Or rather, Katie will be while Mommy cools off with a frosty beverage and her Kindle and the giant garage fan. ;0)
Here's what I got in my mailbox this week...
For Review:

The Dream Thieves by Maggie Stiefvater - I have been waiting to hear from Scholastic for what seems like forever, and finally, finally, I got my approval on Netgalley...right after I found out that I'd won an ARC. o_O Anyway, I'm pretty darn excited to start this sequel to one of my favorite books last year. I would say it's my favorite Maggie book to-date, but that would be a lie because I love The Scorpio Races audiobook so very much. ;0)
Marie Antoinette, Serial Killer by Katie Alender - A serial killer? France? And a charming French boy? Yeah, this book should be fun.
Purchased/Audiobooks:

Sapphire Blue by Kerstin Gier - I loved Ruby Red when I read it last year. I had every intention of reading this sequel when it was released in the US last year, but I got sidetracked, so now I'm doing the next best thing and listening to it before the final installment is released.
The Hallowed Ones by Laura Bickle - Vampires in Amish country? I'm fascinated by the Amish, and even though I'm kind of over vampires for the time being, I am very intrigued by this premise. Plus, friends have loved it, and the ebook is on sale for $1.99 at Amazon and Barnes & Noble. Too good to pass up.
Won:

Horde by Ann Aguirre - ARC won from Christina at Christina Reads YA; I cannot wait to read this final installment in the Razorland trilogy...I just know it's going to be epic!
The Dream Thieves by Maggie Stiefvater - ARC won from Fic Fare; I seriously thought I wasn't going to get to read this before it's release -- which means I would have had to DL the audio in order to fit it into my schedule -- but now I have TWO copies. SQUEE!
So, that's my haul. How about you? What did you get this week?
Reviews:
Promotional/Discussion Posts: SYNC's 2013 Week 11 offerings are up for download, with Enchanted and Through the Looking Glass up for grabs this week -- FOR FREE! Loving this so far, but I want more page time with Chaol. But I'm not all that far into it yet, so maybe that will change. :)

I've been wanting to read The Hallowed Ones and The Raven Boys for a long time! Heard great things about them! Gosh it has been hot there! It was like that here towards the beginning of summer. It was over 110 for like a week and everyone was dying. Happy Weekend!
ReplyDeleteOMG, how funny is it that I was the other winner of The Dream Thieves from Fic Fare. That made me laugh out loud--we are twinsies! I'M SO GLAD YOU GOT THE HALLOWED ONES. *cough* Sorry, I was overwhelmed by excitement. I think you'll really, really like that one. Great haul, lady. :)
ReplyDeleteP.S. What was the book that you said you would pick up as soon as I started SoT? I can't remember and it's been bothering me.
I just started reading Crown of Midnight tonight! I was so-so about ToG but I have faith in CoM to pick it up a notch.
ReplyDeleteI also received Marie Antoinette this week. I can't wait to read it. It sounds so badass!

I really liked The Hallowed Ones, even though I thought it was totally not my thing.
ReplyDeleteMan, those kind of temperatures are just evil!
Enjoy :-D
Cool haul. Happy reading :)
ReplyDeleteI read Ruby Red and was plenty pleased with it, so I'll have to pick up Sapphire Blue sometime soon. Can't wait to hear what you have to think about it, though. I'm so behind on reading sequels, seeing as I have yet to read Outpost either. *sigh* So many books to read, so little time. Enjoy your books and happy reading! :)

The Hallowed Ones is one of my favorite books. I hope you like it. Don't worry about the vampire aspect - it's quite different here.
ReplyDeleteAnd I hope you love Horde as much as I did!

Awesome haul! I wish I had the Marie Antoinette book, it's been on my TBR for months... I just requested it on Netgalley but then I saw that it's Scholastic so they won't approve me anyway because I'm not American. Never mind that the majority of my blog's readers are from the US.
ReplyDeleteHave you seen the movie for Ruby Red? The trailer looked pretty good when it came out a couple months ago. Maybe I'll watch it soon-ish and then I'll decide whether I'll read the books. It's rare that a German series is translated into English so I'm hoping that speaks for the quality of the story.
Enjoy all your new books Jen! And don't worry, there'll be plenty of Chaol ;)
My StS
Hehe, can't wait to see what you think of the rest of Crown of Midnight :DDD. (Major pluses for mentioning Chaol). AND YAYYY OMG ALSO can't wait to see what you think of The Dream Thieves!!! Especially after our discussion of the Raven Boys audiobook.
ReplyDeleteA frosty beverage and kindle and giant fan sound great to me. During the summer, it's almost always in the 90s and 100s where I live O.o.
Happy reading, Jen!
Ugh! Good luck in that yucky heat wave!! We had one here a few weeks back... so NOT fun! I see you're listening to The Raven Boys... I'm eager to see what you think of it, audio versus book, since I didn't care for it too much. I plan on READING The Dream Thieves, versus the audio this time around, to see if I enjoy it more.
ReplyDeleteWonderful haul! I still haven't heard anything about The Dream Thieves. Just pending, pending--always. I have started Horde and am liking it so far. Have a great week!

Enjoy your books Jen!
ReplyDeleteYou got Marie Antoinette Serial Killer! I can't wait for your review! Hope you enjoy your haul!

You might not want to read The Hallowed Ones at night! It takes a bit to get to the gore, but when it gets there- man, it gets there! Course, I am a big chicken when it comes to scary things(or even slightly scary...)! =)
ReplyDeleteI've heard such good things about Hallowed Ones. Enjoy your books!
ReplyDeleteI'm really excited for The Dream Thieves and Marie Antoinette. I have the Hollowed ordered from the library. I've heard really good things about that one, too. Great haul!

DUDE! I read Ruby Red a few years ago and LOVED it! Sapphire Blue was simply terrific. I've been waiting for Emerald Green for what seems like an eternity... and Henry Holt Co refuses to send me an ARC. Actually, they're just ignoring me. That's fine because I don't expect anything from them ;)
ReplyDeleteAnyway, have an awesome week!
Check out my haul post!
I really need to get caught up Ann Aguirre's series. I loved Enclave!
