Title:  The Diviners
Author:  Libba Bray
Series:  Diviners #1
Publisher:  Little, Brown Books for Young Readers
Publication Date:  September 18, 2012

Evie O'Neill has been exiled from her boring old hometown and shipped off to the bustling streets of New York City--and she is pos-i-toot-ly thrilled. New York is the city of speakeasies, shopping, and movie palaces! Soon enough, Evie is running with glamorous Ziegfield girls and rakish pickpockets. The only catch is Evie has to live with her Uncle Will, curator of The Museum of American Folklore, Superstition, and the Occult--also known as "The Museum of the Creepy Crawlies."
When a rash of occult-based murders comes to light, Evie and her uncle are right in the thick of the investigation. And through it all, Evie has a secret: a mysterious power that could help catch the killer--if he doesn't catch her first.

Why I'm waiting:  Where do I start?  I love, LOVE, LOVED Libba Bray's Gemma Doyle series.  I really wish it could have gone on further, but it also made sense to end it where she did.  Anyway, I've got a few of her other works on my TBR list, as well, and I'm sure they're raucous and hilarious, just like the author herself.  But I think...no, I know, that I'll prefer when she writes in a time period other than the present.  And when she writes about magic.  Her writing is magical, in and of itself, and I can't wait to see what she does with the Diviners series.

Oh, and the trailer was just released!  Take a peek:

Wow, that gave me chills!  Beautiful and creepy!  I. LOVE. IT.  Seriously, I want this book yesterday!

  2. Nice pick! I have Beauty Queens, but haven't actually read any of Bray's books. And come to think of it, I'm not a fan of the 1920s. But for some reason The Diviners looks awesome!
    Thanks for sharing!
