Baby bats!  I have the best news for you!!  As you may recall, earlier this month, I shared the new covers for the Night Creatures series by Marianne de Pierres when they become available on Amazon.  However, Marianne and Jared Kubicki (the artist for the original covers for the Night Creatures series) have come to an agreement, and now she will be able to use those covers for the series when it's available here in the states!  Marianne also says that the goth covers by Austin DesignWorks will still be used on the free e-chapters.

About the Author:

Marianne de Pierres is the author of the acclaimed Parrish Plessis and award-winning Sentients of Orion science fiction series. The Parrish Plessis series has been translated into eight languages and adapted into a roleplaying game. She’s also the author of a teen dark fantasy series.
Marianne is an active supporter of genre fiction and has mentored many writers. She lives in Brisbane, Australia, with her husband, three sons and three galahs. Marianne writes award-winning crime under the pseudonym Marianne Delacourt. Visit her websites at www.mariannedepierres.com and www.tarasharp.com and www.burnbright.com.au.

I am sososososo excited about this news!  I liked the new covers, but I love the old ones.  And I know I'm not the only one who feels this way.  :0)  So, what do you think of this news?  Does it make it more likely that you'll actually purchase the physical books now?

So, you may have noticed that snazzy banner at the top of the blog indicating that, yes, after what seems like forever, the Night Creatures series by Marianne de Pierres is finally coming to Amazon in March so those of us in the states can finally read the entire series without having to pay some exorbitant shipping costs to get the books from Fishpond since the books have yet to be published here.  The wait is almost over, and in anticipation of the release on Amazon, the author just revealed the new covers!

Without further ado, here are the new covers, designed by Austin DesignWorks, plus the synopsis for each book:

Into a world of wild secrets and deadly pleasures comes a girl whose innocence may be her greatest strength.

In Ixion music and party are our only beliefs. Darkness is our comfort. We have few rules but they are absolute . . .

Retra doesn’t want to go to Ixion, the island of ever-night, ever-youth and never-sleep. Retra is a Seal – sealed minds, sealed community. She doesn’t crave parties and pleasure, experience and freedom.

But her brother Joel left for Ixion two years ago, and Retra is determined to find him. Braving the intense pain of her obedience strip to escape the only home she’s ever known, Retra stows away on the barge that will take her to her brother.

When she can’t find Joel, Retra finds herself drawn deeper into the intoxicating world of Ixion. Come to me, whispers a voice in her head. Who are the Ripers, the mysterious guardians of Ixion? What are the Night Creatures Retra can see in the shadows? And what happens to those who grow too old for Ixion?

Retra will find that Ixion has its pleasures, but its secrets are deadly. Will friendship, and the creation of an eternal bond with a Riper, be enough to save her from the darkness?

Listen well, baby bats. Burn bright, but do not stray from the paths. Remember, when you live in a place of darkness you also live with creatures of the dark.

Retra - now called Naif - has escaped from Ixion, the island of ever-night. She doesn't know if her friends on the island survived the battle between the Ripers and the rebels. But she does know that she must return home, behind the sealed walls of Grave, to find out why the Ripers have been seen there talking to the councillors. What links the two worlds?

First she must convince Ruzalia to help her. The fierce pirate captain saves those who face terrible fates on Ixion, but that doesn't guarantee their gratitude. Instead, she faces a revolt - and Naif is caught in the middle.

Naif will need all her courage to survive. For Lenoir, who wants to keep her safe, for her friends Suki and Rollo, if they live, for Markes, who has secrets of his own, and for the new friends she will make on this journey.

The fate of worlds depends on it.

Ixion. The island of ever-night.

If she had a choice, Naif wouldn’t go back. But her friends will die if she doesn’t find a cure for the badges that are slowly killing them, and her brother is there, fighting against the Ripers who hold everyone in thrall. And Naif has knowledge that might save them all.

First she must solve the mystery of Ixion’s eternal night. Then she must convince everyone – rebels and revellers alike – to join her cause. And all the while, she must fight the urge to go to Lenoir – her greatest love, her mortal enemy.

The secrets of Ixion must be revealed. The evils must be stopped. A new dawn will come.

And here are the original Random House Australia covers, in case you were interested:

Honestly, I like both designs, but they could simply have the titles on the cover and nothing else and I wouldn't care because I'll finally get the chance to read past the first book!!!!!!!!!  I think both sets of covers capture the essence of the books, the originals a little more atmospheric and the new covers having a bit more of a gothic feel.  At any rate, both designs are gorgeous, but what's important is the story inside.

The really funny thing is, I had just put all three of these books in my cart on Fishpond right before I received the announcement from the author that the books were coming to Amazon, and I had been deliberating for days and days whether $70 for three paperbacks was really as absurd as it seemed.  Admittedly, I've done this several times now, and each time, I've agreed with that part of my brain that says, yes, it is ludicrous.  But now I have to wrangle with my conscience no more!  These books shall be mine as soon as they are available!

If my excitement isn't enough for you, check out the trailer for the first book and just try to tell me these books don't sound great:

Right?  Creepy and dark but entirely beautiful.  It's been awhile since I read the first book, and I don't own it myself, so I'll be starting over from the beginning.  And I absolutely can't wait to get back to this world!

What do you think?  The new covers are pretty great, right?  Do you think you'll check out this series?  I hope so!!!  I'd love to have someone to discuss them with...or maybe even read along with!  =)

My teaser:

When he kissed her, it took time for the pressure to register on her lips. Even then the sensation was dull and without thrill.
"Come back to me, little bat," he whispered.  -- p. 198

Um, this part of the book is kinda weird.  Things have been interesting up to this point, but this part in particular is full of WTFery.  I am so totally in awe of this world and everything else about this book.  Seriously, I am in love with this book!  I'm so glad I got the opportunity to read it...now I can't wait to read the rest of the series.  Hurry up and publish it in the states, Random House!
