{The Weekend Update} 10.22.16

Saturday, October 22, 2016 with 4 comments
So, since my end-of-the-week post isn't just about what I got in my mailbox or on my Kindle each week -- though that is a big part of it, I won't lie -- I decided to change up the title and intro a bit.  I might tweak the format a bit over time, but for the most part, it'll contain the same stuff: stuff I got, stuff I did, and stuff that's coming up on the blog.  Plus, I get to use the awesome GIF you see here and blow kisses to all the people who sent me lovely books and bookish things.  Oh, and I've started linking up to Stacking the Shelves hosted by Tynga's Reviews and Sunday Post hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer since I'm not using a specific meme title anymore.
I missed posting a Weekend Update last week and kinda fell off blogging altogether this week, so today's post will be a catch up...not that there's all that much to catch up on, lol.

Anyway, here's what I scored this week...

Purchased:

I received my first-ever Owlcrate this week! I've already read the book and LOVED it. I'll share my unboxing next week, just to avoid spoilers for those who haven't gotten their boxes yet. :D

Library:

RookThe Problem with ForeverI Woke Up Dead at the MallWax

Rook was a phenomenal re-read via audio. Highly recommend. The Problem with Forever was subpar, even for JLA. I Woke Up Dead at the Mall was less adorable and more touchy-feely than I was expecting, but I enjoyed it. And I'm going to read Wax as one of my spooky reads closer to Halloween. :D

So, that's my haul. =) What fabulous bookmail did you get this week?

Currently Listening:

The Coldest Girl in ColdtownI don't even know what re-read/listen I'm on this time, but it's a must for me this time of year. Or whenever I can't find anything new to listen to, lol. It's just that good. Plus, that kiss...OMG!!!

We're going to have glorious weather here this weekend, but I hope everyone on the east coast is safe and sound. Katie's got a play-date today so I'm hoping (and praying) I get to start my buddy-read of Traitor to the Throne with my bestie while she's gone, lol. Otherwise, I'm just hoping for a chill weekend. Don't get too many of those around here, and I know it's only going to get busier with the holidays approaching. *sigh* It's getting chillier in the evenings, so I'm hoping for a fire in the backyard sometime soon...maybe even tonight! October is simply my favorite. It's, like, the only month it's actually comfortable to be outside for any length of time - at least in TX - so I'm going to take full advantage of it! =)

Anyway, here's what I scored this week...

From Publishers/For Review:

Gemina (The Illuminae Files, #2)Wintersong

You know, I just felt like there was a reason why I hadn't started my ARC of Gemina yet, and this is why: I got the audiobook for review, so now I'm listening and reading simultaneously and it is beautiful. :D And I don't know how I forgot that I got Wintersong this week, but maybe it was because I put everything else on hold to read it, which I rarely ever do, so I assumed I'd always had it. Lol. At any rate, it is gorgeous.

Traded:

No trades this week, but I do still have these available for trade and/or pay for shipping:

Library:

A Scot in the Dark (Scandal & Scoundrel #2)

Eeek! I was hoping the next book would be about the Duke of Warnick after his interesting role in the previous book. Too bad it's narrated by Justine Eyre. womp womp womp

So, that's my haul. =) What fabulous bookmail did you get this week?

WintersongThis book is fucking amazing. All of my wildest Labyrinth fantasies in one place. I am in love, and I may have finished reading by the time this posts, but you better believe a Labyrinth re-watch is imminent.

Gemina (The Illuminae Files, #2)Dude, I'd totally planned to read this much sooner, but I got distracted by other pretties and then I got the audio for review and so I'm reading/enjoying the visuals while I listen and it is giving me life. I thought I couldn't love this book any more than Illuminae but I was wrong.

On one hand, I'm glad it's October because it means the 100 degree days are a thing of the past, at least until next summer, but I still can't believe how quickly this year is flying by. I'm putting out my fall and Halloween decor today and just generally getting excited because this is my favorite time of year. Jerrod will be heading to the deer lease nearly every weekend and Katie and I get girls' night while he's gone, so we end up watching all my old favorite movies - like Labyrinth and Goonies and The Princess Bride - and baking and sitting by the fire and just genuinely loving every minute we have together.

Plus, I think it's finally time we start reading Harry Potter together. She's in third grade and reading a bit beyond her expected reading level, so I think it's time. I know she can do this and it's going to make the experience that much more awesome. She's already a huge HP fan -- she's going to be Hermione again for Halloween this year! -- so this will just make it all the more special. I'm beyond excited for it. I'll definitely be documenting the experience...for you guys and for posterity's sake. :D

Anyway, here's what I scored this week...

From Publishers/For Review:

By Your SideSpindle FireHunted (Hunted, #1)
FireworksShadowcaster (Shattered Realms, #2)The Upside of Unrequited

I limited myself to these six on EW, though there were doubtless others I would have loved to download. Still, this is a good start. And if I finish these and review them, I may allow myself to go back for the others. :)

Gifted:

You only wish you had an awesome bookish best friend like mine. She sent me everything seen here, with the exception of the B&N gift card, which my mom gave me for absolutely no reason. She just loves me that much. As apparently does my bestie. She has to since she sent me a TTTT ARC from SDCC, an ARC of Like a River Glorious, and ARC of Seven Days of You, and ARC of Three Dark Crowns, an ARC of Jane Steele, an ARC of The Mime Order, a finished hardcover of The Near Witch, a signed HC of Fangirl, and a gorgeous Fangirl bookmark. Plus, the funniest note that beat me to the punch of a joke that she just knew I was going to make before I even opened the box that all these goodies came in. We are undoubtedly #bookishsoulmates.

Purchased:

Of course, I had to pre-order Crooked Kingdom for the goodies, but I also bought it on audio so I didn't have to wait until I got home that day to start it. Of course, I didn't really get very far this week on it because of reasons, but I'm getting there and it is absolutely glorious and every bit as good as I'd hoped.

Library:

Shuffle, RepeatThe Queen of Attolia (The Queen's Thief, #2)The King of Attolia (The Queen's Thief, #3)A Conspiracy of Kings (The Queen's Thief, #4)
The Reader (Sea of Ink and Gold, #1)Dream On (Silver, #2)The Sleeping Prince (The Sin Eater’s Daughter, #2)The Shadow Hour (The Girl at Midnight, #2)

I kept seeing Shuffle, Repeat pop up on my GR feed, and since I had such good luck with The Hating Game for the same reason, I decided to go for it. Hope it's another adorable book! Finally, finally my library uploaded some new audiobooks, including my requests that they add the rest of the Megan Whalen Turner books to their catalog. Plus, I grabbed some sequels that I've been waiting till the audio to pick up. I shouldn't be wanting for audio for, oh, a few days, anyway. Lol...

So, that's my haul. =) What fabulous bookmail did you get this week?

The Sun Is Also a StarReading this for review for my tour stop on Monday. Not gonna lie, I'm forcing myself to read it out of obligation, not because it's what I'm in the mood for. Which may weigh on my feelings toward the book in the end. But hopefully the book will end up being good enough to make up for my not being in the mood for it. ;0)

Currently Listening:

Crooked Kingdom (Six of Crows, #2)I had a killer toothache that morphed into a killer migraine that lasted all week, so I hardly read or listened to anything at all. Which is why I'm still working my way through this audio...
