Top Ten Tuesday: Books We Read in 2014

Tuesday, December 16, 2014 with 21 comments

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by the awesome ladies at The Broke and the Bookish. Apparently, they are overly fond of list-making and love to share their bookish lists with the rest of us book nerds.  =) We're game.

This week's topic is the Top Ten Books I Read In 2014 (Overall, By A Particular Genre, 2014 Releases)

April's Picks:

I've read a ton of great books this year and I can see at least two made Jen's list too. I didn't have as much to choose from as far as 2014 releases, because I read a bunch of oldies too. I am hoping next year will bring as many favorites as this year did. :)

Jen's Picks:

And some honorable mentions:

I'll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson
Of Metal and Wishes by Sarah Fine
Something Real by Heather Demetrios
Open Road Summer by Emery Lord
The Falconer by Elizabeth May
The Art of Lainey by Paula Stokes
Haze and Shimmer by Paula Weston

You can check out more of my favorites on my Goodreads 2014 Favorites shelf.

Man, this was hard. I read soooo many amazing books this year, and I kept track of them on the aforementioned shelf on Goodreads. Unfortunately, I wasn't as discerning as I maybe should have been, and I ended up with 57 favorites of 2014. Though, some of those are 2015 titles I've already read, so at least I could exclude those few from the list I needed to narrow it down from. As usual, most of my favorites were fantasy reads, though there were more than a few contemporary reads that really surprised me.

Best of 2014 Giveaway Hop {International}

Wednesday, December 10, 2014 with No comments

Big thanks to Kathy at I Am A Reader, Not A Writer & Mary at Bookhounds for organizing this hop!

I've read sooooo many awesome books this year -- over 200 books total, according to Goodreads -- but there are a few that really stayed with me, even when I read them at the very beginning of the year. One of those in particular was The Winner's Curse by Marie Rutkoski. I've recommended and pushed this book on sooo many people this year, and I'm giving it as a gift to several of my bookish friends and family members. It even pushed me to finally read my copy of The Shadow Society that had been sitting on my shelf for ages.

And now I'm giving you the chance to win your own copy, which is kind of perfect since the sequel will be out in March! :) (I have an ARC but I haven't been daring enough to read it yet because I've heard it hurts. That makes me excited but also so, so nervous. o_O) I usually provide a list of my favorites and then let the winner choose, but I have an extra copy of The Winner's Curse in my possession and I just have to share it with you! And I'll be sharing my picks for Best of 2014 soon enough. =)
