June is Audiobook Month + Giveaway

You probably already know that we here at The Starry-Eyed Revue have a deep-seated love for audiobooks.  And we try to share that passion here on the blog.  We review a lot of what we listen to here, and we love to share recommendations.  We've even converted a couple peeps.  (Sorry for the new addiction, Lisa!)  And we loathe when we hear audiobooks referred to as cheating.  For us, there is just something about having a good story narrated to us, to experience different voices and accents as they tell the story that we most likely would have rushed through on our own.

If you've been paying attention, you probably also know that SYNC has kicked off its annual summer program pairing YA audiobooks with similar classics.  This program is completely free, but each pairing is only offered for a week.  (Which reminds us, we still need to download last week's titles!  Oops!)  We'll be highlighting each week's offerings on the Thursday that the titles are posted for download, including links, so there's no reason to miss out on this awesome program.  Unless, of course, you're not an advocate for audiobooks.  :(

Either way, we're kicking off Audiobook Month -- a little late, but Jen's been sick, so cut us some slack, okay? -- with a giveaway!  Three physical audiobooks on CD are up for grabs:  All These Things I've Done by Gabrielle Zevin, The Fox Inheritance (book #2 in the series) by Mary E. Pearson, and Glow by Amy Kathleen Ryan. Only The Fox Inheritance is new in the box, but the other two were only listened to once for reviewing purposes*.  Also, we haven't decided whether to award all three to one winner or one each to three different winners.  We suppose it depends on the number of entries...or the amount of begging.  ;0)

*Thanks to Macmillan for providing the audiobooks offered in this giveaway.

  6. I've only just started getting in to audio books so I've only listen to a handful so far. The ones that I have listen to were really great and I enjoyed the narrations. Audion books are a great way of getting through some your TBR pile while doing other things like computer work, chores and running errands.

  8. For me, it's a Doctor Who book called The Resurrection Casket. It's read by David Tennant, which is just lovely for my ears haha.

  10. I am really lucky because I have an awesome library system with tons and tons of audiobooks I can download right to my phone so I listen to 2-3 a week while I am working (which is a total blessing). There are so many great ones. I think I would have to go with Thirteen Readons Why by Jay Asher as my favorite though. That book completely spoke to me and in my opinion was perfect for an audiobook. Sometimes they way that books are written for formatted or even the narrator can make it a bad audiobook, but I have to say I've really only ran into a handful of those books.

  11. I have actually never listed to an audiobook! And I have at least a 30 minute drive one way to work each day. I don't know why it's never occurred to me to pop one in :) Thanks for sharing!
