Awhile on the Pile/From the Review Pile is a meme hosted by Stepping Out of the Page every Thursday but was also inspired by Rachel at My Reading Pile/Fiktshun. The aim of this meme is to showcase books that you've received for review -- or any book that you own and really want to read/review -- but haven't yet got around to reading in order to give the book some extra publicity.

Here's the book I chose to give some extra love this week:

Add to Goodreads
Title:  Vanish
Author:  Sophie Jordan
Series:  2nd book in the Firelight series
Publisher:  HarperTeen
Publication Date:  September 6, 2011
Source:  ARC from publisher

An impossible romance.
Bitter rivalries.
Deadly choices.

To save the life of the boy she loves, Jacinda did the unthinkable: She betrayed the most closely-guarded secret of her kind. Now she must return to the protection of her pride knowing she might never see Will again—and worse, that because his mind has been shaded, Will’s memories of that fateful night and why she had to flee are gone.

Back home, Jacinda is greeted with hostility and must work to prove her loyalty for both her sake and her family’s. Among the few who will even talk to her are Cassian, the pride’s heir apparent who has always wanted her, and her sister, Tamra, who has been forever changed by a twist of fate. Jacinda knows that she should forget Will and move on—that if he managed to remember and keep his promise to find her, it would only endanger them both. Yet she clings to the hope that someday they will be together again. When the chance arrives to follow her heart, will she risk everything for love?

So...the reason this one has been sitting on the pile for so long is because I haven't read the first book, Firelight, yet.  And I am just not capable of starting a series in the middle...it just doesn't feel right.  But I've heard great things about this series.  I've got Firelight on my shelf, as well, but since Hidden's release is only mere months away, I think I'll just wait until then to start the series and read them all back-to-back.  That way, no agonizing wait after what I've heard is a pretty big cliffhanger in Vanish.

Have you read any of this series?  What do you think?  Is my plan to wait a cop-out?  :P

  1. I read Firelight last month and will be starting Vanish...well, today actually. I was reminded how I hate waiting for a series to be complete, so I may suggest waiting until Hidden is out since that will be only a few more months.

However, it is a really good series. When I posted a short blurb about it, I mainly wondered if it is possible for a relationship between a human and a draki. I can't wait to start Vanish! Whatever you choose, it will be a great read!

  2. Firelight and Vanish were really good, definitely wait for the third one or you will be left on a cliffhanger right before the action starts like I am. :)

  5. I totally understand about not wanting to start a book out of order. I actually got Firelight in the post today, so it's a strange coincidence that you've featured this one! I hope we enjoy this series! Enjoy, when you get around to it!

  10. I read Firelight and I really liked it.. I love dragons. I would hump them if their junk wasn't so large. I still have to get around to Vanish too. but since you mention Hidden coming out soon, maybe I'll just wait too. Might as well, I've waited this long after Firelight. :O)

I haven't seen this Meme before. my first time. --- meme virgin.

  13. I don't think you're plan is a cop-out at all. I hate waiting on books and since it's only a few months away, that's totally understandable.
    Thanks for sharing!

    1. Thanks, Andrea. I hate waiting, too, but if I had read the books when I got them like everyone else, I'd already be waiting. Sad thing is, I don't even know if I'll like the series, though, with the promise of dragons, I can't see me not liking it. :)
