Teaser Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (Make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

Here's what I'm teasing this week:

In this sequel to the bestselling fantasy thriller, Angelfall, the survivors of the angel apocalypse begin to scrape back together what's left of the modern world.

When a group of people capture Penryn's sister Paige, thinking she's a monster, the situation ends in a massacre. Paige disappears. Humans are terrified. Mom is heartbroken.

Penryn drives through the streets of San Francisco looking for Paige. Why are the streets so empty? Where is everybody? Her search leads her into the heart of the angels' secret plans where she catches a glimpse of their motivations, and learns the horrifying extent to which the angels are willing to go.

Meanwhile, Raffe hunts for his wings. Without them, he can't rejoin the angels, can't take his rightful place as one of their leaders. When faced with recapturing his wings or helping Penryn survive, which will he choose?
My teaser:
"He'll be out for a few seconds, just long enough for me to take care of Alpha boy. And when these two come back to their senses, lying helpless on the floor with me towering above them, they'll get the message loud and clear: I am dominant here. You live or die at my mercy and I say when you fight and when you don't.
It all sounds good in my head.
Only it doesn't play out that way."
-- p. 155 of ARC

I think Penryn might just be my favorite heroine ever.  She's sarcastic, witty, and tough.  But I probably like her sarcasm best.  =)  This book was well worth the wait.  :D

Title: Not a Drop to Drink
Author: Mindy McGinnis
Series: n/a
Publisher: Katherine Tegen Books
Publication Date: September 24, 2013
Source: ARC received from publisher
Purchase: Amazon | Barnes & Noble | Audible

Regret was for people with nothing to defend, people who had no water.

Lynn knows every threat to her pond: drought, a snowless winter, coyotes, and, most importantly, people looking for a drink. She makes sure anyone who comes near the pond leaves thirsty, or doesn't leave at all.

Confident in her own abilities, Lynn has no use for the world beyond the nearby fields and forest. Having a life means dedicating it to survival, and the constant work of gathering wood and water. Having a pond requires the fortitude to protect it, something Mother taught her well during their quiet hours on the rooftop, rifles in hand.

But wisps of smoke on the horizon mean one thing: strangers. The mysterious footprints by the pond, nighttime threats, and gunshots make it all too clear Lynn has exactly what they want, and they won’t stop until they get it….

With evocative, spare language and incredible drama, danger, and romance, debut author Mindy McGinnis depicts one girl’s journey in a barren world not so different than our own.
My teaser:
"Being good-looking doesn't seem to drop the survival rate out here." Eli darted a glance at Lynn, but she was still trying to puzzle out their earlier exchange.
"Being good-looking and a sharpshooter doesn't hurt," Stebbs said with a wry smile.
-- p. 111 of ARC

Heh, I like this Stebbs fellow.  :)  And I reckon this Eli might have himself a little crush.  =)

  2. Awesome teasers! I haven't read Angelfall yet but I keep hearing it's so good and this teaser from the second book sounds very promising. Maybe I should move Angelfall up on my tbr list...
As for Not a Drop to Drink. I once started it but couldn't get into it just yet. Maybe I should try again.

  5. I can see why being good-looking and a sharp shooter will increase your rate of survival. Great teasers.

  6. Susan Ee's first book is on wish list - I'm hoping to read her some time this year. I loved the music in the trailer for Not A Drop To Drink but I wasn't crazy about the mother in the voice over, it was a bit heavy for me (kill, really? and how old is your daughter?). What do you think of the book so far, is it working for you? Thanks for sharing honey, both of these were interesting.

Since you liked WORLD AFTER, you'll probably enjoy my Teaser from SMOKE, WINGS & STONE.

  16. YESSSS HERE IS THE WORLD AFTER TEASER :D.

Lol I am imagining two burly guys being at Penryn's mercy and it's making me recall that scene from Angelfall when she tries using the wings to make her look like an angel. Yes. I love her as a heroine. And her sarcasm. And the way that she's planning on taking out these dudes on her own. You always do a swell job of picking quotes :D :D. WHY WHY IS THE RELEASE DATE SO FAR AWAY *pouts*

I'm glad you enjoyed WA; can't wait for your review!
