"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.
This week's WoW selection is...
Author: Sarah J. Maas
Series: Throne of Glass, book #2
Publisher: Bloomsbury USA Childrens
Publication Date: August 27, 2013
An assassin’s loyalties are always in doubt.
But her heart never wavers.
After a year of hard labor in the Salt Mines of Endovier, eighteen-year-old assassin Celaena Sardothien has won the king's contest to become the new royal assassin. Yet Celaena is far from loyal to the crown – a secret she hides from even her most intimate confidantes.
Keeping up the deadly charade—while pretending to do the king's bidding—will test her in frightening new ways, especially when she's given a task that could jeopardize everything she's come to care for. And there are far more dangerous forces gathering on the horizon -- forces that threaten to destroy her entire world, and will surely force Celaena to make a choice.
Where do the assassin’s loyalties lie, and who is she most willing to fight for?

Why I'm waiting: I loved Throne of Glass so hard when I read it last year. I love a tough heroine, especially when they're battling their own conscience, but Celaena is now one of my favorites. I liked the potential romance(s) in the first book, too, but I'm kind of glad there's no mention of it in this summary. Makes me think that it won't be a focal point of the story. Though, I still firmly believe Chaol is the man for this beautiful assassin. ;0)
I also love this cover change...definitely more fitting for the series:
What are you waiting on this week? Feel free to share it in the comments or leave a link so we can stop by!
Cool cover! So many bloggers are excited for this one. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI'm like the only person that couldn't finish this. But I did like Prince Dorian.
ReplyDeleteMy WOW
Your not alone. I didn't finish it either. I was going to try it again because I did the same with Delirium and ended up liking it.
DeleteI'm on Team Chaol, too! A lot of bloggers are definitely waiting on this one, and i'm part of the club. Great pick!

This is a cover change I actually like, lol. I still need to start this series at some point as it sounds really good.

Looks exciting! Enjoy....and here's MY WOW POST
ReplyDeleteDefinitely looking forward to this one! I recently reread Throne of Glass, which increased my excitement for Crown of Midnight. And, yep, Team Chaol :D

I totally prefer the cover change! It does fit the series better, and it's more kick-butt. I'm ashamed to say I haven't actually read Throne of Glass, but it's on my shelf so hopefully I'll get to it soon. I don't know why I haven't read it considering I usually love books like it...but oh well. I'm still super excited for the sequel!

I like the cover change; I liked the UK cover for Throne of Glass much better than the US one.
ReplyDeleteStill haven't read it, but the good thing in waiting is I don't have as long of a wait for the next book :D
I can't wait for it either!!! I read Throne of Glass in a day. And I'm also glad the US covers now orient themselves on the UK ones - they fit so much better. Caelena's position is so different now and I need to find out what she'll do and what happens with Chaol and Dorian!

I agree with the cover change. =) I heard great things about Throne of Glass. Hope you enjoy the sequel! My WoW
ReplyDeleteI have yet to read The Throne of Glass, but I have it :) Glad you liked it!

My WW!
Welp, another one I have a copy of the first book but haven't read. *sigh* Kinda wish I had the other cover because I like it WAY better. This is one cover change I am down with! Have a great day Jen! :)
ReplyDeleteWow that's a huge cover change! I like the new one better! I haven't read the books yet but I've heard some great things! Maybe I'll have to check them out :). Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteJasmine
Oh, big surprise! a cover change. lol. It's okay, I'm no longer bitter because I only buy kindle books now. :o)
ReplyDeleteI do agree, these covers are much more fitting. Can't wait for this one too. Throne of Glass was awesome.
I didn't know this series was about assassins! I'm adding it to my list immediately!
ReplyDeleteThis is one of the few times I've been happy they changed the cover. I never really liked the old one, but I love the new ones.
ReplyDeleteLove the new covers! I thought the old cover was really lovely, but it looked more like an ad for hair care products. The new one screams "fantasy" and "assassin" much more clearly. Really hoping I snag this one at BEA :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my WoW! Jen @ YA Romantics
i love the new covers too! definitely more fitting. great pick :D

I really do love the cover compared to the first installment. I still have to read Throne of Glass though!
ReplyDeleteMy WoW Pick!
I have Throne of Glass, but need to read it soon. I agree that I love the new covers better. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI don't have words for how excited I am for this book! AND for the first time, I am actually happy about a cover change! Loving the new cover. Great pick!
ReplyDeleteCheck out my WoW!
Great pick. I haven't read the first one. I need to get on the ball.
ReplyDeleteA great WoW! I loved Throne of Glass so I am definitely excited to read this as well.

I really, really want to read these books but I still haven't had the chance to pick up book one. I hope to read it soon so I can wait impatiently for book two like everyone else. Great pick! I hope you enjoy reading this one when it comes out.
ReplyDeleteCome check out my WOW post.
The new cover is better than the old one in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteI wasn't a huge fan of the first book, but I'm interested to see how the story continues. I actually think the new covers stay true to the book a bit more, but I don't necessarily like them better. If I was in a bookstore, I'd mistake the new covers for graphic novels. Great pick!
ReplyDeleteI've seen this book on two other blogs...I get the feelin I need to read the series xD Check out my WoW here: http://www.nobentspines.blogspot.com/2013/04/waiting-on-wednesday_17.html
