The Weekend Update - 6.6.15

So, since my end-of-the-week post isn't just about what I got in my mailbox or on my Kindle each week -- though that is a big part of it, I won't lie -- I decided to change up the title and intro a bit.  I might tweak the format a bit over the next few weeks, but for the most part, it'll contain the same stuff: stuff I got, stuff I did, and stuff that's coming up on the blog.  Plus, I get to use the awesome GIF you see here and blow kisses to all the people who sent me lovely books and bookish things.  Oh, and I've started linking up to Stacking the Shelves hosted by Tynga's Reviews since I'm not using a specific meme title anymore.  April's also doing her own Stacking the Shelves posts on Sundays.  Stop by and say hi!  =)
Katie's last day of school was yesterday! Finally! And she was technically only there for an awards ceremony before I got to sign her out and have a Katie and me day. :) When she first started kindergarten, I didn't think summer vacation would be all that different from the time she spent in school, but it so is. And now that she's finished first grade, it's a huge difference because it means no more teacher who could give a rat's ass about her students. I swear, she had the worst teacher at her school this year, and I'm not the only parent to think so. Anyway, I'm glad for a break in our routine and some summer fun. Maybe we'll even take another short trip. Who knows!?! The possibilities are endless...at least until the end of August, lol.

Since I've been having such a rough go of it at work, I've spent a lot of time trying to escape in books lately. It's worked for the most part, and I've been reading more than I have since January. I'm back to getting through about five books/audiobooks a week again, and it feels lovely. I'm finally starting to make a dent in my physical TBR!

Anyway, here's what I scored this week:

For Review:

Illuminae (The Illuminae Files, #1)Lair of Dreams (The Diviners, #2)

Illuminae by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff - One of my most anticipated reads this year! Love Amie's other sci-fi series with Meagan Spooner, and I've always wanted to read Jay Kristoff's books. This should be epic!
Lair of Dreams by Libba Bray - Another of my must-reads for 2015! I absolutely LOVED The Diviners -- it's even better on audio, just in case you were wondering -- and I cannot wait to see what's next for Evie and company.

Traded/Gifted:

Thanks to @Jamie_Adams22 & @Heirhaven for the #booksfortrade!!!

Library:

My Life With The Walter Boys

My Life With the Walter Boys by Ali Novak - I wasn't expecting much from this, especially considering the audio version I borrowed from the library was missing several chapters throughout, but it was kind of cute. A little annoying at times, but kinda cute all the same. Not sure how I feel about it now that I know a sequel is in the works. Why does everything have to be part of a series now? WAAAAHHHHHHH!!!! :*(

Purchased:

The Master Magician (The Paper Magician Trilogy, #3)

The Master Magician by Charlie N. Holmberg - Such a great ending!

Freebies:

A Corner of White (The Colors of Madeleine, #1)Dracula

I grabbed this week's SYNC audiobooks, and I can't wait to start them! You can find out more on how to download them for free yourselves below. :) This week's pairing seems kind of odd, but I'll roll with it, lol.

So, that's my haul. :) How about you? What did you get this week?

Me and my sis are going to rent this on Tuesday when it comes out, so I wanted to listen again. I've heard the movie is VERY different, but not necessarily in a bad way. Can't wait!

  3. I just got approved for Lair of Dreams after I'd already posted for this week, so it will go on next week. I loved the movie for The Duff. Haven't read the book yet though.
