The Weekend Update - 1.17.15

So, since my end-of-the-week post isn't just about what I got in my mailbox or on my Kindle each week -- though that is a big part of it, I won't lie -- I decided to change up the title and intro a bit.  I might tweak the format a bit over the next few weeks, but for the most part, it'll contain the same stuff: stuff I got, stuff I did, and stuff that's coming up on the blog.  Plus, I get to use the awesome GIF you see here and blow kisses to all the people who sent me lovely books and bookish things.  Oh, and I've started linking up to Stacking the Shelves hosted by Tynga's Reviews since I'm not using a specific meme title anymore.  April's also doing her own Stacking the Shelves posts on Sundays.  Stop by and say hi!  =)
Thank goodness for three-day weekends right after the holidays, amiright? These last two weeks have been killer at work, so I'm in desperate need of an extra day off. Which obviously equates to an extra day of reading! :D Plus, it's supposed to be pretty nice here this weekend, mid-60s and sunshiney, so I'd much rather spend that time away from the office. Even if I should put in some overtime and get ahead, knowing what's in store for me next month. Word to the wise, never enter into a profession that deals with banks a lot because when they merge, it is a freaking nightmare.

Anyway, I had a great week as far as book-acquiring goes. Here's what I scored this week:

Ultraviolet (Ultraviolet, #1)A Darker Shade of Magic (A Darker Shade of Magic, #1)I started this early this week, but I've been so sleepy lately that I've passed out by 9:30pm every night. :( And ADSOM isn't a book you read in bits and pieces, nor is it one you read when you're not fully alert. I've been looking forward to reading it for so long that I thought I should give it the proper attention so I've been waiting till this weekend to pick it back up. MY BODY IS READY!!!!

I've wanted to read this one for awhile, and I saw it available while perusing the library website for my next listen, so I thought, what better time than now? ;)

  1. The Sin Eaters Daughter and Becoming Jinn are two books that I really want to read when they come out. How beautiful is the Sin Eaters Daughter cover?? I also really need to start the These Broken Stars series, everyone seems to love it.

I am so glad you liked the Darkest Part of the Forest. I have been seeing a lot of negative reviews of it lately and I was slightly turned off getting it because I think Holly Black can be a bit hit or miss. I really loved The Coldest Girl on Coldtown but I wasn't a huge fan of Tithe. I may just have to pick this up right away now haha

  4. Ah I got a lot of the same books you did and very excited for them! I didn't get Vanishing Girls, which is one I can't wait to read reviews on because I'm very interested in it, but me and Oliver are hit and miss! I absolutely LOVEEEEEE ADSOM and you are so right, it's not meant to be read in pieces, you have to sit down with it and devour it!!! I wasn't a fan of DPotF unfortunately :( Great haul this week Jen!

  6. WHOA ALL THE BOOKS!

I've been seeing The Sin Eater's Daughter popping up Everywhere! It's awesome. I have a copy myself and I really want to get into it along with all the other people. I'm also interested in Vanishing Girls even though I wasn't a fan of Oliver's book, Panic.

  10. I LOVE your haul this week, Jen. Wait a minute... when do I NOT love it?

I'm so curious about the Sin Eater's Daughter! The cover is fantastic! Becoming Jinn is another one I've been eyeing. I hope it delivers! I'm looking forward to your reviews of ADSOM & Crimson Bound! I should really get to Cruel Beauty first, though. Still, I want to see if Hodge is an author I can count on, and because we have similar tastes, I know I usually like what you like! So, I'll be looking out for you thoughts. ;)

Enjoy ALL OF THE BOOKS and especially, your day off! I wish I had one!
