The Weekend Update - 6.7.14

So, since my end-of-the-week post isn't just about what I got in my mailbox or on my Kindle each week -- though that is a big part of it, I won't lie -- I decided to change up the title and intro a bit.  I might tweak the format a bit over the next few weeks, but for the most part, it'll contain the same stuff: stuff I got, stuff I did, and stuff that's coming up on the blog.  Plus, I get to use the awesome GIF you see here and blow kisses to all the people who sent me lovely books and bookish things.  Oh, and I've started linking up to Stacking the Shelves hosted by Tynga's Reviews since I'm not using a specific meme title anymore.  April's also doing her own Stacking the Shelves posts on Sundays.  Stop by and say hi!  =)

Katie graduated Kindergarten yesterday! My baby isn't such a baby anymore! Waaaaaahhhh. It was almost as hard on me watching that assembly as dropping her off that first day of school. Big moments leave me an emotional wreck, but I'm recovering. I'm sure I'll be ready to drop her off for 1st grade by the end of summer. =D

Mr. Starry-Eyed and I will probably be working quite a bit this summer, but I'm hoping to talk him into a road trip, even if it's just across the state of Texas. It's a pretty big state, after all. And I want to see all the sights I've never spied with my little eye, like Cadillac Ranch and the true desert, and places Katie's never been to but that I loved as a kid, like Dinosaur Valley State Park. We realize that we have precious few years where our kid will still actually want to hang out with us, so we need to make the most of it, lol.

We've also got our garden in, but it's really small and nothing compared to the garden April puts in each year. Maybe once we move we'll have a better spot. ;0) I'll post some pictures next week of our progress with it, though.

Anyway, here's what I scored this week:

Library, Freebies & Deals:

To All the Boys I've Loved Before (To All the Boys I've Loved Before, #1)Love, In EnglishLove and Leftovers

To All the Boys I've Loved Before was on sale last week for $2.99 for Kindle, and I couldn't pass that up. Now, thanks to April's recs, I've got FOUR Jenny Han books to read this summer. =)

Love, in English by Karina Halle - Thanks to April for sharing that this was on sale for $0.99. I've never read a Karina Halle novel, but April swears by them, so I had to pick it up. Now let's see how long it takes for me to actually read it, lol.

Love & Leftovers by Sarah Tregay - Just happened to catch this one on sale yesterday and I had to grab it. It sounds perfectly adorable and just right for the light summer reading I plan to be doing soon. :D

So, that's my haul. How about you? What did you get this week?

Say What You WillBetween the Spark and the Burn (Between, #2)I'll be finishing up Between the Spark and the Burn this weekend, and then I'll post a Review in a GIFfy of it sometime next week. Haven't decided on my next read, though. Maybe Wild or Alias Hook, both of which are retellings and sound phenomenal.

I probably shouldn't be listening to this right now since I do have plans to go see The Fault in Our Stars this weekend and I already know that movie's going to leave me a sobbing, blubbering mess, but the audio was available and a girl needs a good cry every once in awhile, right? Plus, after We Were Liars, I needed a story where I was likely to connect and actually like the characters.

  1. Love, in English is gorgeous. Karina Halle could pretty much rewrite a cereal box and I'd give it five stars. She has a way with characters and complicated love.

I really enjoyed We Were Liars. I look forward to reading your thoughts. I'm reading Dark Metropolis this week for the blog tour and I'm really intrigued by it. On the Fence and Say What You Will are both on my TBR and one of these days (soon, hopefully) I'll get around to my ARCs.

    Enjoy all your new books!

  3. Great haul, Jen. I have a question: where you do get your audiobooks? I mean, aside from SYNC YA, that is. I've just listened to Confessions of a Murder Suspect and I absolutely loved it. Now, I'm on the lookout for some great YA audio books that are relatively economical.

    Thanks!

    1. Aside from SYNC, I usually procure my audio from the library or through my Audible subscription. =)

  6. Aww, congrats to Katie and good luck to you :) Growing up can be hard for both the parent and the kid (although the kid doesn't usually know it until everything hits her at once at, say, 18 years old;) Love & Leftovers looks really cute!

  13. My son just completed Kindergarten as well and it was super bittersweet. I felt so nostalgic and proud all at once. It goes so incredibly fast! Hugs, Momma! And I'm excited to read your thoughts on We Were Liars and Between the Spark and the Burn!

  14. Aw! Congrats (kind of) on your daughter's graduation. She looks adorable. I'm excited to read Alias Hook. That cover is gorgeous and it sounds awesome. Jackaby also looks pretty good. I liked To All the Boys, but wasn't the biggest fan of her "Summer" series--especially the last book in that series which was just awful, imo. I do, however, love the Burn for Burn series she writes with Siobhan Vivian. Happy reading! I hope you get to go on your road trip!
