A deliciously charming novel about finding true love . . . and yourself.

Nothing ever happens in Little, CA. Which is just the way Carter Moon likes it. But when Hollywood arrives to film a movie starring former child star turned PR mess Adam Jakes, everything changes. Carter's town becomes a giant glittery set and, much to her annoyance, everyone is starry-eyed for Adam. Carter seems to be the only girl not falling all over herself to get a glimpse of him. Which apparently makes her perfect for the secret offer of a lifetime: playing the role of Adam's girlfriend while he's in town, to improve his public image, in exchange for a hefty paycheck. Her family really needs the money and so Carters agrees. But it turns out Adam isn't at all who she thought he was. As they grow closer, their relationship walks a blurry line between what's real and what's fake, and Carter must open her eyes to the scariest of unexplored worlds - her future. Can Carter figure out what she wants out of life AND get the guy? Or are there no Hollywood endings in real life?

The cover for Catch a Falling Star is absolutely adorable. One of my best friends had a room that went out onto the garage roof. I remember spending many party evenings out there sitting, looking up at the stars and just talking about life. So immediately I was drawn to this book.

It was cute! It really was. I wouldn’t say it was all that realistic, but I didn’t expect it to be. Carter Moon lives in a small town and there is a moving being shot there. One of the hottest young celebrity guys out there is the star, so he breezes into town full of arrogance.

I’ll be honest, Adam Jakes, I was not a fan of him early on. Wow… what a jerk. I did warm up to him eventually as the story goes on. I understood him. If I had cameras following me everywhere I would probably be an a hole too. He’s used to being used, and girls fawning all over him. What he wasn’t used to was Carter Moon, who initially does not give a crap about him.

Adam has gotten himself into quite a pickle. Child star gone bad, I was thinking about Bieber the whole time reading this. Carter is hired to pretend to be his girlfriend for the duration of the shoot, in hopes to help improve his image. Much to her dislike, but her family needs the money for reasons I won’t mention. That was an angle I wasn’t expecting, but it was different, and I liked that. Carter and Adam don’t really like each other at first, but things change. They get to know each other.

One of my favorite characters is Carters best friend Chloe. That girl made me laugh. Over all, this was a really sweet story. Not too deep, but not to fluffy. Just right, and very coming of age. I enjoyed it.

  1. I always mix this up with Second Star... >.< Oops. I'm not really sure if I'd read this one...*sigh* It looks fun and fluffy, buuut ,the whole arrogant actor thingie?? I've read it before and this doesn't sound like a particularly fresh spin on it. But, great review, April! I'm kind of tempted. ;)

    1. Me too!!! I was all confused cause Jen has Second Star Scheduled this week and I kept on going to click on her post instead of mine!

yeah, he was quite a douche early on, but I loved watching her interact with him because she was not impressed. :)

  2. I'll be reading this one soon, I think. It sounds a little like This is What Happy Looks Like, which I kind of adored -- though I think I'd adore anything by Jennifer E. Smith, including the new one that I preordered with my Amazon $$. I've been in the mood for fluffy lately. :D

    1. woo hoo!!! It's fluffy like This is What Happy Looks Like, but it definitely stands on it's own. It's not the same story at all. And omg, I know!!! I can't wait until Jennifer E. Smiths new one! :o)

Fluff is where it's at. I'm all about fluff these days. :)

  3. This book sounds really cute, I'll have to get myself a copy when it comes out! I have read a few contemporary novel in the last few weeks, but they weren't what I was looking for. I'm really happy to see that this one is quite great!

  6. I'm a sucker for these celeb-regular people stories! I haven't read this one yet, but I have a copy and I'm going to pick it up soon when I need something light and fun. For me it's appealing that Adam is a jerk at first, as long as we get to experience an adequate amount of change to make us like him and swoon. Thanks for the review!
