Teaser Tuesday #7

Teaser Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (Make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

This week's teaser comes from the following book:

Amazon | Barnes & Noble | Goodreads
Title:  Throne of Glass
Author:  Sarah J. Maas
Series:  1st book in the Throne of Glass series
Publisher:  Bloomsbury
Publication Date:  August 7, 2012
Source:  Netgalley

After serving out a year of hard labor in the salt mines of Endovier for her crimes, 18-year-old assassin Celaena Sardothien is dragged before the Crown Prince. Prince Dorian offers her her freedom on one condition: she must act as his champion in a competition to find a new royal assassin.

Her opponents are men—thieves and assassins and warriors from across the empire, each sponsored by a member of the kings council. If she beats her opponents in a series of eliminations, she’ll serve the kingdom for three years and then be granted her freedom.

Celaena finds her training sessions with the captain of the guard, Westfall, challenging and exhilirating. But she’s bored stiff by court life. Things get a little more interesting when the prince starts to show interest in her... but it’s the gruff Captain Westfall who seems to understand her best.

Then one of the other contestants turns up dead... quickly followed by another. Can Celaena figure out who the killer is before she becomes a victim? As the young assassin investigates, her search leads her to discover a greater destiny than she could possibly have imagined.

My teaser:

"She had the sickening feeling of falling.  She gasped as  her spine collided with marble, the rapier flying from her hand.  Chaol pointed his blade at  her heart.  "I win," he breathed." -- p. 75 of galley

Okay, okay...I know I wasn't supposed to start this one yet, but I couldn't help myself.  I have no willpower whatsoever.  But, hey, I've officially broken out of my reading slump, so there's that.  :D

What are you reading this week?  Tease me in the comments!
