{The Weekend Update} 8.13.16 - While the Cat is Away...

So, since my end-of-the-week post isn't just about what I got in my mailbox or on my Kindle each week -- though that is a big part of it, I won't lie -- I decided to change up the title and intro a bit.  I might tweak the format a bit over time, but for the most part, it'll contain the same stuff: stuff I got, stuff I did, and stuff that's coming up on the blog.  Plus, I get to use the awesome GIF you see here and blow kisses to all the people who sent me lovely books and bookish things.  Oh, and I've started linking up to Stacking the Shelves hosted by Tynga's Reviews and Sunday Post hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer since I'm not using a specific meme title anymore.
So, the hubs is out of town this weekend, and well, you know what they say: while the cat is away, the mice will play. =) Or rather, we'll be as lazy as humanly possible. It's too hot to do anything else, so we're going to be Netflix-ing and gaming it up while he's gone. And, of course, I'm hoping to get some reading in, too. Especially since I hardly picked up a book this week. I just wasn't in the mood. But my listening has been making up for it. It's kind of been all over the place, too. You'll see...

Okay, okay. On to the books. Here's what I scored this week...

From Publishers/For Review:

I am SO freaking excited to read This is Our Story! And Katie and I are participating in the Reading Without Walls Blog Tour to promote STEM-themed books for kids, so Macmillan sent us the middle grade novels pictured above. So much awesome reading in our future!

Like a River Glorious (The Gold Seer Trilogy, #2)

I loved the first book in this series. It's what started my inherent need to read all the YA westerns I could get my hands on. And now this glorious thing is in my hands!

Traded:

I am so happy to add these finished copies to my collection, thanks to some lovely people via #booksfortrade!

I just posted a new #booksfortrade | Have You Seen This? post this week! I updated my lists, too! I'm still looking for a few high profile ARCs, like Throne of Glass, On the Fence, and Scarlet (Gaughen), plus some other 2016 releases, including Wintersong and Traitor to the Throne, plus others.

Purchased:

Nevernight (The Nevernight Chronicle, #1)

I had an eARC of this title, but I was scared off from reading it by a ton of less than stellar reviews...and also mention of those dreaded footnotes. But now that I'm listening to this book, I'm finding it hugely clever and entertaining. Sometimes, it's good to give a book a second chance.

Library:

All Lined Up (Rusk University, #1)All Broke Down (Rusk University, #2)All Played Out (Rusk University, #3)

I listened to all of the Rusk University books that have been released so far and *wipes brow*. They were HAWT. Not as hot as Mr. Kristoff's novel above, which is admittedly VERY surprising, but still, they gave me the romance I was craving. I get in these moods every once in awhile. Probably stemmed from my re-listen of On the Fence earlier this week. =)

So, that's my haul. =) What fabulous bookmail did you get this week?

The Week in Review:

Reviews:

A Week of MondaysA Torch Against the Night (An Ember in the Ashes, #2)Bright Smoke, Cold Fire (Untitled, #1)

Currently Reading/Listening:

The Beast Is an AnimalI started this the other day and have only read a few chapters. It's good -- and creepy -- so far, but it's not what I'm in the mood for so I'd rather pick it back up later when there's a better chance I'll love it. Thinking of picking up Holding Up the Universe instead...

Currently Listening:

Nevernight (The Nevernight Chronicle, #1)This book is diabolical and hilarious and I am enjoying it immensely. Though, I do see why it is considered adult rather than YA, even though the protagonist is only 16. Bloody and violent and so, so VERY HAWT.

  2. I loved Nevernight, but I felt weird about reading such detailed descriptions of teens having sex. I hope you like The Love That Split The World. It is romantic and trippy. Have a great week.

    1. Ah, man. Now I feel weird about it, too. I haven't been able to pick the book back up since I read your comment. :( :( :(

I read TLTSTW earlier this year and adored it. So I had to get a finished copy for my shelves. Especially since that cover is sooo pretty.

  3. I'm excited about Like a River Glorious myself! I listened to All Lined Up, and it was good. I'll probably go on with the series, but we'll see. Great haul this week!
