The Weekend Update - 5.24.14

So, since my end-of-the-week post isn't just about what I got in my mailbox or on my Kindle each week -- though that is a big part of it, I won't lie -- I decided to change up the title and intro a bit.  I might tweak the format a bit over the next few weeks, but for the most part, it'll contain the same stuff:  stuff I got, stuff I did, and stuff that's coming up on the blog.  Plus, I get to use the awesome GIF you see here and blow kisses to all the people who sent me lovely books and bookish things.  Oh, and I've started linking up to Stacking the Shelves hosted by Tynga's Reviews since I'm not using a specific meme title anymore.  April's also doing her own Stacking the Shelves posts on Sundays.  Stop by and say hi!  =)

I have been such a bad girl lately! I had my HPB haul last week, then my Book Outlet haul came in on Monday. (Shhh...don't tell my husband!) I just cleaned off my shelves over the weekend, and already I'm out of room again. I don't know what I'm going to do with myself. I think I'm going to have to make a pact with myself to set aside some of the books, read them, and then give them away if they're not immediate favorites. It's the only way to keep the house from being inundated with bookshelves. Katie already needs another shelf, and her books actually used to share space with mine in the office! I know, what a lovely problem to have, right? ;0)

Anyway, here's what I scored this week:

For Review:

Stitching SnowMidnight Thief (Midnight Thief, #1)Winterspell

Stitching Snow by R.C. Lewis - via Netgalley
Midnight Thief by Livia Blackburne - ARC from publisher
Winterspell by Claire Legrand - via Edelweiss

And Away We Go by Migy
Little Elliot, Big City by Mike Curato
A Bed for Kitty by Yasmine Surovec
Kitty & Me by Sharon Kane

Lots of awesome new reads this week, courtesy of Disney-Hyperion, Simon & Schuster, and Macmillan Children's Books!

Purchased:

Since You've Been GoneAttachments

Since You've Been Gone by Morgan Matson (audio) - loved Amy & Roger's Epic Detour and this one sounds gorgeous; plus, April's been listening to it and I got totally jealous and had to get a copy. =)
Attachments by Rainbow Rowell - was an Audible Daily Deal earlier in the week

My Book Outlet Haul:

Monstrous Beauty by Elizabeth Fama (review)
Enshadowed by Kelly Creagh
Saving Francesca by Melina Marchetta
Hold Me Closer, Necromancer by Lish McBride
Altered by Gennifer Albin (review)
Looking for Alibrandi by Melina Marchetta
All Our Pretty Songs by Sarah McCarry
Valkyrie Rising by Ingrid Paulson (review)

Library/Freebies:

Nothing from the library this week. I think I've gotten enough books in the last two weeks to keep me occupied for awhile. =D But I did pick up the SYNC audiobook titles this week, though I'm especially excited about this one, even though I already read the ARC earlier this year:

Cruel Beauty

So, that's my haul. How about you? What did you get this week?

Jen's Currently Reading/Listening To:

Since You've Been GoneWhat I Thought Was TrueStarting on my Summer TBR as I take a much-needed break from some review books. I loved Huntley Fitzpatrick's debut, and I'm sure I'll enjoy this one just as much. =)

Like I said, I was jealous that April was listening to this and I wasn't, so BAM. Now I'm listening, too. This is my second Morgan Matson book and I'm loving it. She's quickly becoming one of my go-to contemporary authors.

This is my Summer TBR. I'm hoping to get through all of these AND stay on top of review books this summer. =)

  1. If I'm really sure I'm not going to read a book again and if it doesn't mean something really special to me I'm giving it away. Every time I have to say goodbye to some books it's hard, but they're taking up too much space otherwise. Great purchases!

  2. You got a ton of great books this week! I'm super excited for Stitching Snow and Winterspell! I bought Since You've Been Gone and downloaded Cruel Beauty as well. That will be my first ever audiobook...we'll see if I like it! Enjoy all the books! :)

  3. I've got Cruel Beauty too! FINALLY. My library has it so I snapped it right up (After convincing them it was YA, not adult...um...*sigh* My library is a bit weird sometimes, and they charge for adult book requests, so...awkward. >_<) Oooh! You have The Midnight Thief?!! *drools* Looking forward to the review on that one. Heh, and after only 6 months of ARC reviewing I've filled up most of my bookshelf. It's an awesome feeling, and yet worrying....hehe.

  7. Love the haul!! STITCHING SNOW! I saw it up for request but I held off hoping for a physical arc. I tend to have trouble reading e-arcs on time. I hope it is amazing!! I need for it to be beautifully done. And Hold Me Closer--I want to read that so badly! I love the title and I've heard good things. I read Midnight Thief last week and enjoyed it. Can't wait to hear your thoughts.

  8. Ha! I just downloaded the audio of Since You've Been Gone as well, and I'm gong to start it today. I'm beyond excited. I just recently purchased What I Thought Was True as well. I was sad that it's not on audio yet because I loved My Life Next Door on audio, but I just can't wait any longer. So I purchased the hardcover. :D Hope you enjoy all of your new books!

  10. I really want to read Since You've Been Gone, I really enjoyed her other books and that one looks really great. I recently read What I Thought Was True and have to admit that I was actually really disappointed with that one, it wasn't what I was expecting at all. I hope you enjoy all of your books :)

  13. I AM FLAILING JEN. FLAILING. So I need Stitching Snow asap. I didn't even know it was up for request. I JUST finished The Midnight Thief and PLEASE OH PLEASE tell me when you finish so we can discuss. LOVED. IT. Since You've Been Gone was a FANTASTIC summer read for me so I'm excited to see how you like the audio version (I now have an excuse to "read" it again!). Oh, Jen, I love this so much.

  14. Wow so many great titles... I have to admit I am pretty good with passing books on once I read them. The only ones I tend to keep are the ones with pretty covers and it has to be ones I love, books that are signed to me and ones I know I will read again (if I read them again)
