SYNC recently announced the list of audiobook pairings up for grabs this summer, and the program has officially kicked off. Last week's offerings were Rotters and Frankenstein. And here's what you can grab through Wednesday of next week...for free!
This week's YA title is Carter Finally Gets It by Brent Crawford, performed by Nick Podehl for Brilliance Audio.
Meet Will Carter, but feel free to call him Carter. (Yes, he knows it's a lazy nickname, but he didn't have much say in the matter.)
Here are five things you should know about him:
1. He has a stuttering problem, particularly around boobs and belly buttons.
2. He battles Attention Deficit Disorder every minute of every day unless he gets distracted.
3. He's a virgin, mostly because he's no good at talking to girls (see number 1).
4. He's about to start high school.
5. He's totally not ready.
Join Carter for his freshman year, where he'll search for sex, love, and acceptance anywhere he can find it. In the process, he'll almost kill a trombone player, face off with his greatest nemesis, suffer a lot of blood loss, narrowly escape death, run from the cops (not once, but twice), get caught up in a messy love triangle, meet his match in the form of a curvy drill teamer, and surprise the hell out of everyone, including himself.

This week's classic title is She Stoops to Conquer by Oliver Goldsmith, performed by a Full Cast for L.A. Theatre Works.
This comic masterpiece mocked the simple morality of sentimental comedies. Subtitled The Mistakes of a Night, the play is a lighthearted farce that derives its charm from the misunderstandings which entangle the well-drawn characters. Mr. Hardcastle plans to marry his forthright daughter Kate to bashful Marlow, the son of his friend Sir Charles Marlow. Mrs. Hardcastle wants her recalcitrant son Tony Lumpkin to marry her ward Constance Neville, who is in love with Marlow's friend Hastings. Humorous mishaps occur when Tony dupes Marlow and Hastings into believing that Mr. Hardcastle's home is an inn. By posing as a servant, Kate wins the heart of Marlow, who is uncomfortable in the company of wellborn women but is flirtatious with barmaids. A comedy in five acts by Oliver Goldsmith, produced and published in 1773.
So, it seems like bumbling idiots might be the theme this week? :P I do have to admit that I'm a bit worried that the main character in this week's YA production is apparently worried that he's a virgin. Freshman are, what, fourteen? Yeah, I'm of the mind that fourteen-year-olds should be virgins, but maybe I'm a bit old-fashioned. Anyway, I'll definitely be picking up She Stoops to Conquer. I love stories of bad pairings and hilarious antics.

I hope you take advantage of this program. I've been doing it for the last couple of years, and I've had the chance to listen to a ton of great audio for free. If you've never tried audiobooks before, it's a great opportunity to do so without the obligation of buying one that you might not enjoy. And if you love audiobooks, well, it's a great time to stock up on some titles you may have missed. Win/win. =)

Well, apparently I'm old-fashioned too then because I read that synopsis thought A. idiot and B. You should be a virgin. BE A KID. GO PLAY VIDEO GAMES OR RIDE A BIKE.
