"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.
This week's WoW selections are...
Author: Alexandra Bracken
Series: The Darkest Minds, book #2
Publisher: Disney Hyperion
Publication Date: October 15, 2013
Ruby never asked for the abilities that almost cost her her life. Now she must call upon them on a daily basis, leading dangerous missions to bring down a corrupt government and breaking into the minds of her enemies. Other kids in the Children’s League call Ruby “Leader”, but she knows what she really is: a monster.
When Ruby is entrusted with an explosive secret, she must embark on her most dangerous mission yet: leaving the Children’s League behind. Crucial information about the disease that killed most of America’s children—and turned Ruby and the others who lived into feared and hated outcasts—has survived every attempt to destroy it. But the truth is only saved in one place: a flashdrive in the hands of Liam Stewart, the boy Ruby once believed was her future—and who now wouldn’t recognize her.
As Ruby sets out across a desperate, lawless country to find Liam—and answers about the catastrophe that has ripped both her life and America apart—she is torn between old friends and the promise she made to serve the League. Ruby will do anything to protect the people she loves. But what if winning the war means losing herself?

I'm not reading that synopsis. I'm not. I want to be completely surprised when I pick up this sequel. Especially after that ending in The Darkest Mind. And I've got squinty eyes aimed at all you BEAers who scored an ARC. :-P

Publisher: Simon Pulse

A toxic friendship takes a dangerous turn that leads to a rooftop tragedy in this riveting novel from the author of Where It Began.
Emma is tired of being good. She’s always done what’s expected of her, and she’s starting to feel antsy. That’s why meeting Siobhan is the best thing to happen to her, before it’s the worst. Because Siobhan is dangerous, and fun, and alluring, and experienced... In other words, she’s everything Emma isn’t.
And then things go terribly wrong.
There’s Dylan, the boy who comes between them. And it’s true that their high-stakes pacts are spinning out of control. But there’s even more to the story—and everything comes to a head at an infamous afterparty where debauchery rages on the rooftop, and an intense, long-awaited confrontation results in a terrifying freefall…

A toxic friendship. A boy who comes between them. Rooftop debauchery. Count me in. I just hope that terrifying freefall isn't literal.
What are you waiting on this week? Feel free to share it in the comments or leave a link so we can stop by!
I remember loving the cover reveal of After Party. Still such a long time until it releases! I still need to finish The Darkest Minds. It was interesting but kind of sad and slow at the beginning so I didn't finish it before I had to return it to the library.
ReplyDeleteMy WOW
Both of these books sound amazing! Great picks.

I still need to read The Darkest Minds, best get on that. After Party sounds good even if it isn't a genre I normally read. Good picks this week!

After Party is already on my TBR. I, too, am dying to get my hands on it! And yes, I still need to read The Darkest Minds. *sigh*
ReplyDeleteToni @ My Book Addiction
Great selections! Really eager for Braken's. Love that cover.

I still need to read the Darkest Minds, so I'm not reading the synopsis either. I've heard great things and it is definitely on my TBR pile. Afterparty sounds great, too, but 2014! Great picks!
ReplyDeleteNatflix&Books' WoW

I HAVE AN ARC OF NEVER FADE!!! I'm sure if YOU asked Disney/Hyperion for one, they'd send it to you. I'm not going to read it yet, because I'm swamped in already-released e-ARCs. I hope you get this one! It's also on NetGalley :)
ReplyDeleteCheck out my WoW post!
I emailed Disney I'm hoping I can have a copy of it. I loved TDM so much that I need to read this one as a real book.
DeleteWe had AFTERPARTY this week too! :)
ReplyDeleteOoo, Tonya just got ahold of the Bracken, so it's going to be interesting to see if she likes it as much as she liked the first one! Totally into AFTERPARTY, too. "Toxic friendhips" sound intriguing.
ReplyDeleteWendy @ The Midnight Garden
Darkest Minds is on my TBR list, I really need to get on that haha. I love the cover of Afterparty. Great picks!
ReplyDeleteHere's my WoW at Bookmunchies (:
Afterparty looks good. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThis sounds so good! Great WoW pick :)
ReplyDelete-Scott Reads It
I still haven't read The Darkest Minds (read mixed reviews) so I'm also staying away from the synopsis. I'm still intrigued with the overall idea though!
ReplyDeleteLove the cover for afterparty! These types of books are sometimes a bit hard on me because of the toxic friendship thing but the rest of the description sounds too good to pass up ^^
