In My Mailbox #49

In My Mailbox is hosted by Kristi at The Story Siren.  It's a weekly meme where we all get to brag about the books and swag we got in the mail, for review, won in contests, etc.

**This post would have been up earlier, but Blogger has been giving me trouble for the last 24 hours or so.  Also, I had some serious dental work done yesterday, and I was a little out of it last night, to be perfectly honest.**

Ack!  Guys, I am the worst!  The absolute worst!  I bought audiobooks for books that I already have on my shelf!  Lots of 'em!  I'm just getting so behind in my reading...and I had quite a few Audible credits saved up, soooo...I splurged.  And I've been wanting to read these books since before they were released.  Ugh...someone smack my hand and tell me to stop already!  :(  Here's the damage:

For Review:

Blind Spot by Laura Ellen

Won/Gifted:

Aftermath by Ann Aguirre, signed copy from the author

Purchased:

The Crown of Embers by Rae Carson -- SOOOOOOO EXCITED!!!!
Unspoken by Sarah Rees Brennan -- finally got my own finished copy, enter to win yours [ review ]
Alice in Zombieland by Gena Showalter -- AIW, zombies, OH MY!
The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater, signed -- loved this one! [ review ]
The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater, signed -- EEEEEEEKKKK!!!!

Audiobooks:

Angel Fire by L. A. Weatherly -- even though I pre-ordered the HC way back when
Lies Beneath by Anne Greenwood Brown -- even though I won a signed copy prior to release
Rapture by Lauren Kate -- even though I purchased AND won a signed copy (GEEZ!!!)
The Diviners by Libba Bray -- even though I won an ARC (but at least I sorta have an excuse...it's super LONG!  But the audio is FAN-FREAKING-TASTIC!!!!  Totally worth it!)
Raised by Wolves by Jennifer Lynn Barnes -- even though I won a PB, but this one was on sale for $4.95
The Iron Thorn by Caitlin Kittredge -- even though my BBS bought me a copy
Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi -- on sale for $4.95, and I've actually already read it, but I will need a refresher soon
Once by Anna Carey -- THIS IS THE ONLY ONE I DIDN'T ALREADY OWN!!! [ review ]

Seriously, someone make me stop!!!!!!!!

I was soooooo bad this week!  And now I can't decide whether to read The Crown of Embers or The Raven Boys first!  Suggestions?

The Week in Review:

Reviews:  Once (audiobook) -- my review for Shadows was supposed to go up last night, but there were Blogger issues and dental work to recover from, so it'll be up this weekend at some point.  :(

We put the adult back in YA in last week's edition of The Sunday Symposium.

Current Giveaways:  Win a copy of one of my favorites this year in the Stuck in a Good Book Giveaway Hop!  Also, leave a comment on the above linked Sunday Symposium post and enter to win your choice of YA novel.

Winners:  Melissa won the EPIC Hunger Games movie prize pack in the Books to Movies Giveaway Hop and Alex won a copy of Monstrous Beauty in the Under the Sea Giveaway Hop

Cover Reveals:  Abandon by Elana Johnson & Opal by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Also, I signed up for the Sweet Evil Read Along in October!  Won't you join us as we prepare to swoon over Kaidan?

The Week Ahead:

The fourth post (yay, I've been at it for a month now!!) in my new Sunday Symposium series - a new feature in which I'll be discussing various bookish topics and asking for your commentary, as well.  There may even be another giveaway...just sayin'.  :0)

My review of Melissa Darnell's Covet and Ilsa J. Bick's Shadows will go up later this weekend.  I'll also be reviewing the sequel to Lia Habel's Victorian steampunk zombie romance novel (say that three times fast!), Dearly, Beloved, as well as an audiobook or two that I've been meaning to review for awhile.  =D

Also, I hope you'll stop by and enter to win a super-fantastic-must-read set of books on my stop of the Banned Books Giveaway Hop, which starts at the end of the week.

  1. You have so many bought books, and they all look awesome!! I want Crown of Embers so much right now, but I'm trying to be good and not buy anything at all at the moment. Will see what my fiance says lol.
    Enjoy all of them!
Also, I'm newly following, I don't know why I wasn't before, I had meant to at one point.

  2. Sorry about that dental work!
Loved the audio of Lies Within, but the way the guy did little girl voices did grate on me a bit.

You got some amazing stuff -- don't feel even a bit guilty :)

    1. I hate when they do that! The guy in Hold Me Closer, Necromancer did that, too, and it was so very annoying. :(

Oh, I have a penchant for making myself feel guilty over purchases, be they good or bad. Even if it was the best purchase of my life, I'd still feel bad about it. :0/

  7. I love audiobooks! They are a great way to catch up with reading when you don't have enough time so that way you can get reading done in the car and on walks and everything. Blind Spot sounds great and I'm dying for Alice in Zombieland and The Raven Boys! Happy reading and thanks for stopping by!

    1. Exactly! I even listen all day at work when I'm not doing anything that takes a lot of my attention. I can't wait to get to Alice and The Raven Boys either! Hopefully they don't become those that I never got to and had to buy the audio instead! :P

    1. BTW - where do you get all of your audiobooks from? Do you recommend any particular website? I've often thought about getting audiobooks, but they seem so pricey I've always steered away from them. I definitely think I could get through more books if some were audiobooks and I could listen while doing other things. :)

    2. Hehe...I'd be more worried about my sanity than jealous. It's a sickness, I tell ya. As for where to get the audio, I have a membership through Audible.com. For something like $23/mo, I get two credits, which essentially equals 2 books. And if you want more than just the two books each month, you still get the audiobooks at a discounted rate, somewhere between $10 and $20 for most titles, which is way cheaper than buying the audio on CD. Plus, Audible has a ton of sales throughout the year, some where all the books on sale are $4.95 each -- that's cheaper than a paperback! And I find some really good reads that way. (Listen to me...I should work for those guys! But seriously, I LOVE Audible!) Hope this helps and that you give audio a chance! :D

  9. I'm reading The Raven Boys right now, and it's seriously blowing my mind! Maggie's characters are just so well thought out and real. And it's a bit creepy in parts, but deliciously so!

  10. I hope you're feeling better, Jen!

I just finished Rapture yesterday. I loved it! I still need to read my copies if the Raised by Wolves series that April got me LAST CHRISTMAS! I am such a loser.

    I hope you enjoy everything!

    1. Thanks, Andrea. I'd be better if I wasn't at work so I could take another pain pill and pass out. :(

Yay! I'm glad you loved Rapture. I've been meaning to get to that one FOREVER! I'm glad I'm not the only one, though, that still has a ton of unread books on the shelf. :P
