SYNC Summer 2014: Week 3 #syncya

Thursday, May 29, 2014 with 2 comments

Man, I can't believe it's already the end of May! The kids are [almost] out of school, and summer is officially upon us. You know what that means! Free audiobooks! =) SYNC recently announced the list of audiobook pairings up for grabs this summer. Here's what you can grab through Wednesday of next week...for free!

This week's YA title is Confessions of a Murder Suspect by James Patterson, performed by Emma Galvin for Hachette Audio.

James Patterson returns to the genre that made him famous with a thrilling teen detective series about the mysterious and magnificently wealthy Angel family... and the dark secrets they're keeping from one another.

On the night Malcolm and Maud Angel are murdered, Tandy Angel knows just three things: She was the last person to see her parents alive. The police have no suspects besides Tandy and her three siblings. She can't trust anyone -— maybe not even herself.

Having grown up under Malcolm and Maud's intense perfectionist demands, no child comes away undamaged. Tandy decides that she will have to clear the family name, but digging deeper into her powerful parents' affairs is a dangerous -- and revealing -- game. Who knows what the Angels are truly capable of?

This week's classic title is The Murder at the Vicarage by Agatha Christie, performed by Richard E. Grant for Harper Audio.

The first Miss Marple mystery, one which tests all her powers of observation and deduction.

“Anyone who murdered Colonel Protheroe,” declared the parson, brandishing a carving knife above a joint of roast beef, “would be doing the world at large a favor!”

It was a careless remark for a man of the cloth. And one which was to come back and haunt the clergyman just a few hours later–when the Colonel is found shot dead in the clergyman’s study. But as Miss Marple soon discovers, the whole village seems to have had a motive to kill Colonel Protheroe.

Murder mystery novels are always hit or miss for me, but considering these two are from masters of suspense, I think they'll end up surpassing my expectations. As is usually the case with these SYNC titles, I've never read anything from either of these authors, and I'll once again be using this program to remedy that.

Will you be picking up either of these titles?  Remember, they're only available through Wednesday, and new titles will be put up on Thursday for download.  Other things to note:

I hope you take advantage of this program. I've been doing it for the last few years, and I've had the opportunity to listen to a ton of great audio for free.  If you've never tried audiobooks before, it's a great opportunity to do so without the obligation of buying one that you might not enjoy.  And if you love audiobooks, well, it's a great time to stock up on some titles you may have missed.  Win/win.  =)

  1. I really like audio books...gosh I should try this. Do you ever have to pay? I know that sounds scroogie of me, but I'd rather own a book, if you know what I mean, and just by it from TBD than buy an audio. >_< I'm really tempted to go sign up and just see what pops up.

    1. It's TOTALLY FREE! You just have to have Overdrive to download it, and that's free, too! :D And once you download it, it's yours to keep and listen to whenever you want. You should definitely sign up...there are more great titles coming this summer, and I think most are open internationally. There are a few that aren't because of rights or whatever, but still, definitely worth a look. =)
