"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.
This week's WoW selection is...
Author: Lauren DeStefano
Series: The Internment Chronicles, book #1
Publisher: Simon & Schuster BFYR
Publication Date: October 1, 2013
On Internment, the floating island in the clouds where 16-year-old Morgan Stockhour lives, getting too close to the edge can lead to madness. Even though Morgan's older brother, Lex, was a Jumper, Morgan vows never to end up like him. She tries her best not to mind that her life is orderly and boring, and if she ever wonders about the ground, and why it is forbidden, she takes solace in best friend Pen and her betrothed, Basil.
Then a murder, the first in a generation, rocks the city. With whispers swirling and fear on the wind, Morgan can no longer stop herself from investigating, especially when she meets Judas. He is the boy being blamed for the murder — betrothed to the victim — but Morgan is convinced of his innocence. Secrets lay at the heart of Internment, but nothing can prepare Morgan for what she will find — or who she will lose.

I loved Wither but felt that the sequel wasn't as strong as the first book. (I still have to read the last book, though.) Anyway, I'm hoping this new series doesn't suffer that same fate. And just from those first couple of lines of the synopsis, I got a Burn Bright feel, and even though the rest of the summary makes the book sound quite different, I'm entirely hopeful that this might be a new favorite. Also, that cover is effing gorgeous.
I'm excited for this one too! I actually didn't like Wither that much but loved the two sequels! LOL

ReplyDeleteI love your blog! It's so pretty :) I haven't read any of Lauren's books, some of my blogger friends / twitter friends say they're not that great, but I have Wither so maybe I'll start that one and see what it's like. Good pick!

I did like the whole Wither trilogy but for some reason I can't decide if I want to try this. I am just hoping for no love triangle. Maybe I'll wait and see what the word on the street is before I make up my mind.
ReplyDeleteAnd what is a "Burn Bright" feel???? I Googled it and all I got was a My Chemical Romance song….
Thanks so much for stopping by! Jen @ YA Romantics
This does look really good. A floating island city and a murder mystery? Sold! I never got into the Chemical Garden series, but I'll definitely be checking this one out. Great pick!
ReplyDeleteThis looks really good! Added to my TBR.

That's a pretty cover. I've heard good things about DeStefano's books, but haven't read any. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI'm the same as you. I really liked Wither but not the sequel so much. Still need to read the third book. I'm curious about this new one.
ReplyDeleteI haven't read The Chemical Garden series, but it's for sure on my list, as is this one! I agree, gorgeous cover and fascinating premise.
ReplyDeleteI still need to read Sever too. But I love that series and look forward to seeing what else she comes up with. :)
ReplyDeleteEveryone is choosing Perfect Ruin this week! I don't blame y'all this book sounds and looks amazing. I wasn't a big fan of Wither (and I haven't picked up the rest of the trilogy yet), but I'm looking forward to this book.
